Doubletree Hotel

Is this the coolest hotel in New York? The Doubletree Hotel on 51st and Lexington was designed by Morris Lapidus, the architect of the classic Fontainbleau Hotel in Miami Beach, which is why it looks like it belongs at the beach rather than in the middle of the concrete jungle.

It opened in 1961 as The Summit. It changed names to Loews New York and to the Metropolitan before settling on the current name. It was designated an NYC landmark in 2005. Well deserved indeed.
